The peer review process developed and administered by Lytmos Group for the Florida Biomedical Research Program received certification today by the National Cancer Institute (NCI). Included are the Bankhead-Coley Cancer Research Program and the James & Esther King Biomedical Research Program, twin state-sponsored competitive research programs for Florida researchers, Lytmos was instrumental in helping the Florida Department of Health obtain this certification, including initiating and preparing the application.
National Cancer Institute (NCI) spokesperson, Dr. Linda K. Weiss, explained the decision. “The committee felt that the review policy conformed to the general National Institutes of Health (NIH) standards of peer review and funding, as required in our guidelines. The Program also provides substantial funding for research that is clearly cancer relevant, an important consideration in our review.”
The Florida Programs will now be added to the list of 17 others appearing as approved funding agencies in NCI Guidelines. According to Peggy Shults, Lytmos CEO, “This endorsement means that current and potential Comprehensive Cancer Centers in Florida are now able to include James & Esther King and Bankhead-Coley cancer research grants (with the exception of Shared Instrument Grants) among their research bases in order to maintain or earn their Cancer Center designations.”
Lytmos has provided peer review, grant management, and consulting services to the Florida Department of Health since 2004.
