Lee's Summit, MO, May 5, 2008 – Lytmos has been awarded a one-year contract by the Missouri Small Business and Technology Development Center to support a pilot project of the Center's SBIR outreach effort, one of several components of the new Missouri Technology Incentive Program (MoTIP). Lytmos will arrange technical peer reviews of applications describing early stage technology projects submitted by Missouri small businesses that plan to compete for federal SBIR or STTR Phase 1 funding. "MoTIP also is meant to raise awareness and participation in the federal programs among Missouri's entrepreneurs," said Paul Rehrig, a technology development counselor at the state's Small Business and Technology Development Centers. He promotes the SBIR and STTR programs and helps companies apply for them. "The state receives far less than its per-capita share of SBIR and STTR funds," he explained. Missouri averaged total awards of approximately $10 million in each of the last two years from an annual federal pool of about $2 billion. MoTIP "will make it much more attractive" for entrepreneurs to apply for SBIR and STTR grants, said Bob Calcaterra, head of the Missouri Technology Corp. Committee that created it, and president of the Nidus Center for Scientific Enterprise business incubator in Creve Coeur. Lytmos provides similar services for statewide programs in Pennsylvania and Florida.
